The record

  1. 01

    Scope

A new beer garden, outdoor courtyard, bar lounge, TAB lounge and kids area, built around the conservation of the tramway substation on site, one of only eight of the original eleven still standing.

  2. 02

    How we delivered

The centrepiece was a new glass atrium alongside the substation's west elevation, which puts the heritage building on view from the bar lounge and from the courtyard on Annerley Road. We staged the works zone-by-zone to keep the venue trading, with services re-routed around live operations and tested before each handover.

  3. 03

    Outcome

A suburban corner hotel given new indoor-outdoor dining and lounge space while its heritage substation was kept, delivered with the doors open.
